HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible.

Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water spray, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 96░C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 96░C use a closed system, ventilation.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS!

  • INHALATION
  • Corrosive. Burning sensation. Cough. Shortness of breath. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes).
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Inhalation: FIRST AID. Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Redness. Burning sensation.
    Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Corrosive. Redness. Pain.
    Face shield.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Corrosive. Abdominal cramps. Burning sensation. Diarrhoea. Nausea.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Cautiously neutralize remainder. Wash away remainder with plenty of water.
Separated from strong bases. Ventilation along the floor.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating producing corrosive fumes. Attacks many metals forming flammable/explosive gas (HYDROGEN - see ICSC # 0001).

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV not established.

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The vapour irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of the vapour may cause lung oedema (see Notes).

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
    PHYSICAL
    PROPERTIES
    Boiling point: 186░C
    Melting point: -35░C
    Relative density (water = 1): 0.94
Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 20░C: 2
Vapour pressure, Pa at 20░C: 20
    Relative density of the vapour/air-mixture at 20░C (air = 1): 3.5
    Flash point: 96░C
    Auto-ignition temperature: 375░C
Explosive limits, vol% in air: 1.6-7.3
    ENVIRONMENTAL
    DATA

    N O T E S
The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered.
